‘We live our lives like Jesus’

6th March 2026

St Carlos Acutis

On Thursday 12th March at 2pm, the school will host the relics of St Carlos Acutis. He was born in London in 1991 and with his family moved to Milan in Italy. St Carlos Acutis died at the age of 15 from leukaemia.   He gave his time towards helping the homeless and the hungry living in Milan, even purchasing food and sleeping bags for them.

Holy relics remind us of the saint's life and inspire us on our own journey to holiness as each of us is called to sainthood.  We will be in the presence of holiness and an example of someone who trusted and had faith in God.  The relic is a section of the pericardium (the membrane surrounds the heart). It is preserved in a reliquary and is hugely significant as this is a sac that protects the heart - St Carlos Acutis gave his heart in following Jesus.

St Carlos Acutis is often referred to as the first millennium saint because he used his digital skills to share the good news of Christ and to evangelise. He famously said "The Eucharist in my highway to heaven," reminding us that when we receive the host at Mass or spend time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, we are in communion with Christ.

Our St Carlos Acutis class will be leading our celebration of the word at 2pm on Thursday 12th March - all families and parishioners are invited to join us. During our celebration, there will be the opportunity for all present to say a prayer giving praise and glory to God.

One key image of St Carlos Acutis is of a teenager, wearing a hoody or polo shirt and jeans - On Thursday, we would like all children to wear similar clothes to school - jeans, sweatshirt or hoody, polo shirt.  As he was known to use technology for good our school challenge will be to only use social media and technology to share joy, love and peace.

Guinness Book of World Records - World Book Day Event

On Thursday, our year 3 and 4 children took part in a World Record attempt - we joined thousands of other children at Fratton Park with the task of all reading together a text from Dan Freeman.  Our children looked wonderfully colourful in their costumes and had a great time.

Mini Vinnie’s Request: The Mini Vinnies would like donations of small flowerpots to prepare for a plant sale they are organising for Easter.

School Uniform donations: We are also looking for spare clothing to keep on hand for little accidents. Particularly if you have any spare black joggers or leggings, they’d be greatly appreciated!

Lost Property: We have a large array of lost property. We will have this available to view during Parents Evening. Please can you check this if you are missing any uniform/packed lunches/accessories. This will be disposed of at the end of the term.

World Book Day – Monday 9th March

Technology - We now know the Government are starting a consultation on under 16s access to social media.  It would be great if parents can start the conversation with their child about their use of devices; What social media and games are they accessing and using?  What do they like about them and what worries them? How would they feel about not having access to certain sites?
Whenever we have to deal with an issue about inappropriate messages being sent to children and groups via WhatsApp, I am always surprised by the time children are sending messages.  My challenge and request is for the next 2 weeks, could mobile phones be charged out of the bedroom so children aren't tempted to send, read and reply to messages

What do you see? What could it be and why do you think that?

Last week, our image was a steel heavy duty wire scrubber - were you right?

And what are these red donuts?

  • What do they think the image is and why?

  • What does the image remind them of and why?

  • Can they describe the colours, shapes and textures?

ARBOR APP - Please can I ask all parents to check their child's information on the ARBOR APP.   If you received a new mobile or have moved recently, please update the contact details and ensure all the information on your child's record is correct. We are particularly keen for parents to check the religion status for their child as we believe there are a number of children recorded as Christian and not specifically as Catholic.

SMART Devices - I am writing to remind you that for the safeguarding of all members of our school community, children are not permitted to wear smart technology devices into school. This includes items such as smart watches. Children are permitted to wear a basic digital or analogue watch, but this must not have any photographic or communicative functions and should not be valuable. If you are not sure whether a watch is suitable for school, please speak to the class teacher.

Benefitted Related Free School Meals As you may be aware, families on certain benefits may be entitled to what is known as the Pupil Premium Grant - this is an amount of money, about £1300, that the school receives to support children in school. Where a family is entitled to the pupil premium grant, we offer subsidies for trips and some activities. However, families are also entitled to free holiday activities and a supermarket voucher during some holidays. If you have not checked whether you are entitled please do so before the end of September by clicking on this link Synergy - Enquiry Please do speak to Mrs Penney in the office if you need any help.

School Uniform donations: We are looking for spare clothing to keep on hand for little accidents. If you have any spare black joggers or leggings, they’d be greatly appreciated!
